[Physical and Chemical Properties]
Polyaluminum chloride (PAC), also called polyaluminum, is a water-soluble inorganic polymer that strongly neutralizes charges and bridges colloidal particles in water. It effectively removes toxic substances and heavy metal ions. It is stable and exhibits strong adsorption and bridging. During hydrolysis, it undergoes coagulation, adsorption, and sedimentation. It flocculates quickly, works in a wide pH range, is non-corrosive to equipment, and significantly improves water quality by removing color, SS, COD, BOD, arsenic, mercury, and other heavy metals.

[Usage and Dosage]
Conduct jar tests to determine dosage based on raw water quality. Prepare 2–5% solution by weight; e.g., to make 3%, dissolve 3 g PAC in 50 ml water, then dilute to 100 ml and mix. Adjust dosage based on sedimentation performance: sparse flocs and turbidity suggest under-dosing; large flocs and overflow suggest over-dosing.
Depending on the characteristics of the raw water, jar tests should be conducted prior to use to determine the optimal dosage. For convenient calculation, prepare test solutions at 2-5% concentration by weight (W/W). To prepare a 3% solution: weigh out 3g of polyaluminum chloride solid, place it in a cleaned 200ml graduated cylinder, add approximately 50ml of clean water, and after complete dissolution, dilute with additional water up to the 100ml mark before shaking well. Apply the optimal dosage determined through testing, while continuously monitoring and adjusting during operation. If observing sparse floc formation in the sedimentation tank with high residual turbidity, this indicates insufficient dosage; if seeing large floating flocs with elevated residual turbidity, this suggests excessive dosage and appropriate adjustments should be made accordingly.
